Happy American Heart Month, Annapolis Residents! Why Not Celebrate by Making Some Healthy Lifestyle Changes?
February 5, 2015
Did you know that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is responsible for one out of every three deaths in the U.S.? And that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of American men and women? These are sobering statistics for sure, but preventative measures can help stop CVD in its tracks. That's exactly why President Obama has recently declared February American Heart Month. His campaign intends to spread awareness about CVD, calling on Americans to understand the condition's risk factors and to take the reins of their health. That includes you, Annapolis residents!
But what exactly is cardiovascular disease? According to the American Heart Association, CVD relates to conditions of the heart and blood vessels that can lead to heart disease, heart attacks, stroke, and high blood pressure. The risk of CVD varies greatly from person to person, but leading a healthy lifestyle can help lower one's risk. A healthy lifestyle includes regular exercise, a healthy diet, quitting smoking, and regular routine health evaluations, according to the CDC.
