It’s the Month of the Military Child: Here’s Where to Find Events in Your Area
April 13, 2018
Military families go through a lot, from deployments to frequent moves. Military children sacrifice a lot, too, so it's no surprise that this unique upbringing makes them strong and independent. Throughout the month of April, we honor the sacrifices made by children in military families through the Month of the Military Child, which includes various activities and services thorughout the country.
The Month of the Military Child was officially established in 1986, when Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger initiated this month-long celebration and the Department of Defense quickly honored her initiative. Since the Month of the Military Child began, there have also been many more awareness campaigns geared toward educating people about the struggles military children face, as well as support programs thorughout Department of Defense Dependent School System (DoDDS) all over the country.
